Media Paper 1 -Terminology

Section A Channel-surfing - Changing frequently from one program to another on a television, watching each one for only a short time.  Commercial TV Channel - A channel funded through advertisements Convergence - Process of joining different technologies into one device. E.g. mobile phone. Franchise - License from company of a product to use format/show/ideas. Mainstream - Mass audience; the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are shared by most people and regarded as normal or conventional. PSB - Public Service Broadcasting; regulators demand channels fulfil certain requirements as part of their license.

Analysing the Observer/Guardian Online (Official website/Facebook & Twitter Masthead -  The masthead "The Guardian" is in a bold text at the top of the website, showing that "The Guardian" is the one who is superior, giving us, the audience the information. Colour Pallet -  The colour pallet is in the primary colours (red, yellow and blue), showing that's a more formal magazine.  Imagery -  The imagery used on this website are images of politically orientated people such as Theresa May and Brexit. DIRT Question 1 - Analyse how sound is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer Sound is used to create tension and suspense in this crime drama. Firstly, the use of diegetic sound of the first scene of the lawyer picking up the telephone, creating tension to the audience and lawyer as the non-diegetic sound of the music is sow and deep, and this creates tension to the audience. The ambient diegetic sound of the police radio calling for backup for assistance with a robbery creates a sense of tension for the police officers and audience as they have a sense of worry. Why was the pre-watershed scheduling of 8-pm significant in terms of the representation they could offer? The pre-watershed scheduling of cuffs being on at 8pm is significant in terms of the representation as children won't be watching it past that time so it's more suitable for adults.
