What are the audience expectations of a TV Crime Drama?

Uses of gratification theory -

Information and education - The viewer want information, knowledge and understanding by watching the show.

Entertainment - Watch TV Crime Dramas for enjoyment 

Personal Identity - Viewers can recognise a person or product, role models that reflect similar values to themselves and mimic or copy some of their characteristics. 

Integration and social interaction - The ability for the media products to produce a topic of conversation between people.

What narrative ideas do they expect to find?

A crime would happen and the police would have to chase after the person, then arrest them.
What kinds of characters?

Good cop vs bad cop
The criminals/drug dealer

What locations?

At a police station 
Well know city

What representations would they expect?

Racist representations
Alpha male, police officer
Homophobia 

What values will they think will be shown?

Main Characters PC Ryan Draper - Male, macho, takes control, representing race, dad to a daughter and son. PC Jake Vickers - Not very experienced, 22, gay Chief Robert Vickers, DS Jo Moffat, DI  Felix Kane, Drug Addict - Nathan, Simon Reddington  DS Jo Moffat - single, lonely, loves her dog storylines: episodic and individual/overarching Beach, police station, hospital,  Setting Brighton, beach, pier Overall tone/appeal Serious at times, but sometimes comes across as quite jokey.
