The Duopoly in the 1960s

The era of two competing broadcasting, ITV and the BBC, is referred to by many as a "Golden Age" of broadcasting in the UK. The two institutions had full control over the programmes as they produced them in-house.

 Pros-

  • Better quality in programmes as there was fewer programmes in the 1960s, so there would be more shares for both TV channels.
  • Allowed in-house talent and content to be developed over time and build a loyal audience 
  • Production became more of a business, talent was developed and processes improved

Cons- 

  • Hard for voices outside of the institution to be heard.
  • Ideas subject to the ideologies of those in control/political pressures.
  • Some argues in competing with ITV the BBC "Dumbed down" some of its content.

Cuffs Episode 1

Main Characters PC Ryan Draper - Male, macho, takes control, representing race, dad to a daughter and son. PC Jake Vickers - Not very experienced, 22, gay Chief Robert Vickers, DS Jo Moffat, DI  Felix Kane, Drug Addict - Nathan, Simon Reddington  DS Jo Moffat - single, lonely, loves her dog storylines: episodic and individual/overarching Beach, police station, hospital,  Setting Brighton, beach, pier Overall tone/appeal Serious at times, but sometimes comes across as quite jokey.
