How is tension and
suspense created through media language in the TV scene?
The
scene sounds of the diegetic sound of thunder and lightning, and a close up
shot of a television turning static. This creates tension and suspense because
it connotes there is a power cut or ghostly intervention.
The
scene starts of a close up sound of the girl turning off the television to
reveal a man. The diegetic sound comes from the man, which is low. This creates
tension and suspense because it connotes that someone is watching her, and a
ghost the there which, makes the scene creepy.
This
scene starts off as a swish-pan to reveal the no one is sitting on the chair
and a floating TV remote above the chair. The non-diegetic sound effects creates
a swoosh sound as the camera goes into a swish-pan.
The
camera tilts down and the remote fall’s to the floor. The diegetic sound is
high pitch and squeaky which creates tension. This creates suspense because the
ghost could be anywhere but you don’t know where.
This
scene starts as 1-2 shots of remote on the floor and close up on the girl.
Median close up of remote on the floor is scary because you don’t know where
the ghost is, and the close up of the girl is showing fear on her face. The
sound is non-diegetic and diegetic because of the change of pitch. This creates
tension and suspense because the audience doesn’t know what there is going to
be a jump scare.
This
scene starts of median shot of chair, close up of remote, then to the girl to
reveal a jump scare of the old man. The non-diegetic starts sound is slow and
low so you’re not expecting the jump scare. This creates tension and suspense
because you’re not expecting the jump scare and when you least expect it the
old man appears behind the girl.
